Our Journey
Messy Mates isn’t just a business – it’s a community. It’s a place where babies, toddlers, and young children can explore, get messy, and grow through play, and where parents and carers can connect, chat, and enjoy the chaos together. Every session is designed with development in mind – motor skills, communication, sensory regulation, creativity – all built into play that’s safe, fun, and inclusive.
We use taste-safe materials, follow child-led play principles, and take care of everything from setup to clean-up. Whether we’re splashing in jelly, scooping coloured rice, or exploring nature-inspired textures, we’re all about letting kids be kids.
At Messy Mates, we believe that play is powerful – and that the mess is more than worth it.

Hi, I’m Taryn – a proud mum, finance analyst, and the heart behind Messy Mates Play Dates. After years working as a financial analyst, everything shifted when I became a mum. I found myself craving something more fulfilling – something that let me be present with my son while also making a meaningful impact. That’s when I discovered the world of sensory play and the incredible benefits it brings to little ones. With a background in volunteering with children and a love for creativity, I’m now on a mission to bring joy, connection, and a whole lot of mess to families in our community.
Joshua is my biggest supporter, best friend, and the behind-the-scenes muscle of Messy Mates. Whether he’s helping load the car, wrangling Wyatt, or jumping in to set up for a big session, he’s always there making things run smoother. While I’m the creative brain behind the play, Josh keeps things grounded – and I couldn’t do this without him. He’s the calm to the chaos and the quiet MVP of our little family-run business.
